HMS Queen Elizabeth is set to be officially named and unveiled today by her majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd herself. At the Rosyth dockyard in Scotland, the UK’s largest ever warship will be unveiled.

Rather than the usual bottle of Champagne the Queen will “launch her” using a bottle of Islay Malt Whiskey!

AFT Fluorotec PTFE slide bearings were used during the construction of the Royal Navy’s largest ever Aircraft Carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.

During the ships 33 month build period at the shipyard in Rosyth, the benefits of AFT Fluorotec’s PTFE slide bearings came into full effect. The low coefficient of friction of PTFE allowed the weighty metal parts of the huge drive shaft assemblies, to be slid from the various areas in the Rosyth Shipyard with minimum efforts.

AFT Fluorotec PTFE slide bearings can be designed to accommodate various loadings and sizes and construction can be varied to suit your application or requirements, please contact us here for further information or to ask a question of one of the team.
