ECTFE coatings (Ethylene-ChloroTriFluoroEthylene) are better known by the brand term Halar ECTFE coatings.

ECTFE is resistant to most bases, acids and organic solvents and is widely used in both the chemical processing and pharmaceutical industries. Anti-static and filled versions are available depending on the application requirements.

 

ECTFE COATING TYPES

ECTFE coatings are available in different grades that are specifically designed for electrostatic powder coating, fluidized bed coating, or both.

Electrostatic powder coating

This procedure involves substrate preparation, spray coating, baking and cooling. Several passes may be required to obtain the desired coating load and build up thickness.

 

Fluidized bed coating

Generally, preheated items can be coated by dipping directly into the fluidized ECTFE powder followed by baking. The dipping and baking operation can be repeated to achieve multiple coats and achieve the desired coating thickness.

 

Halar Coating applications

Halar® is the trade name for ECTFE coatings offered by Solvay Specialty Polymers. 

Halar® is a semi-crystalline melt processable partially fluorinated polymer. This type of coating is particularly suitable for protection and anti-corrosion applications thanks to its unique combination of properties.

Typical applications served by Halar® include those in contact with highly corrosive or ultra-pure chemicals such as strong inorganic bases and mineral & oxidizing acids including:
