Hot-dip galvanising has traditionally been used to protect steel structures against corrosion. It involves dipping metal parts into molten zinc and then allowing them to cool before applying. These coatings can degrade quickly in heavy use, resulting in corrosion and an increased slip hazard.
Many large steel structures, including oil platforms, refineries and bridges, have been routinely protected against corrosion by thermal spray aluminium (TSA), zinc thermal spray or alloys of the two. However, whilst this is an extremely protective corrosion-resistant coating in very aggressive corrosive environments, it is not really durable enough to prevent long term wear on floor plates.
