As concerns surrounding Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) continue to grow, Fluorotec would like to reassure our customers that our use of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is unlikely to be restricted by PFAS regulations. Here at The PTFE and derivative variant materials processed and offered by AFT Fluorotec are produced by suspension polymerisation where no PFAS are added within the processing.
PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used in various industrial and consumer products for decades. They have been linked to a number of health and environmental concerns, and their persistence in the environment has raised questions about their safety and long-term impact.
Recent proposals from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) have suggested the restriction of certain PFAS substances. While we recognize the need to investigate and regulate these chemicals, we believe that the critical seals and components we produce, where alternatives do not exist, are unlikely to be restricted.
PTFE and its derivatives are essential materials in engineering solutions that help make the impossible possible. Their chemical inertness and non-decomposing, non-degradable nature make them unique problem-solving materials in not just engineering, but also life-saving chemical, scientific, and pharmaceutical applications.
Fluorotec is committed to adhering to any and all regulations and directives regarding the use of PTFE. We currently reprocess and reuse all of our waste, scrap, and cutting swarf, and have strong environmental ethics within our business.
While we appreciate the need to investigate the safety and environmental impact of PTFE, we believe that its unique properties and critical applications make it an essential material that should be used responsibly and with care.
We expect that other, less essential applications within fabrics and garments are those where scrutiny may result in new legislative restrictions. As always, Fluorotec will continue to follow legislative guidance and safety laws to ensure the safe and responsible use of all our materials.
To discuss any questions or concerns you may have, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our team is available to provide you with more information and address any concerns you may have regarding the use of these materials.
